Peace Park Planting Blitz

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2024

Time: 11AM-3PM

Location: Peace Park, Strodtman Pl, St. Louis, MO 63107

Details:

Peace Park Partners and Green City Coalition are seeking volunteers to plant of thousands of native perennials at Peace Park in St. Louis. This is a uniquely amazing event, as the planting is a literal “ground breaking” for this phase of  Peace Park, which has been a years-long collaborative effort with residents and community partners to turn a block of vacant lots into a vibrant community park in the College Hill neighborhood - the only St. Louis neighborhood without a park. The development of Peace Park has been a collaborative effort with community partners and neighborhood residents, and this event will be a great way to extend the legacy in plant form!

No planting experience or tools are needed. Feel free to come for the whole time, or just drop in for a bit - but please RSVP through the button below. Refreshments and food will be provided, and we're looking forward to seeing you there!

About Counterpublic and Peace Park

For Counterpublic 2023, Jordan Weber has developed "Defensive Landscape," a site-specific regenerative earthwork for St. Louis’ Peace Park built in collaboration with the site’s existing community and institutional partners. A permanent community-engaged rainwater garden, gathering space, and play area designed by Arbolope Studio offers a critical intervention into the generational health implications of the intertwined crises of captivity and ecological apartheid.

“Defensive Landscape” represents the culmination of Weber’s ongoing work in St. Louis in partnership with the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Washington University’s Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Equity (CRE2), and the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Green City Coalition, Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD), and numerous other collaborators.
